I can agree that Flip has no clue whatsoever. He has no skill at roster/rotation management. Joe D can provide all the public relations support of Flip he desires but FLIP IS EXPOSED.

I wonder what Bill would be saying right now if he was still calling the games??

I'D BE MORE RELAXED if we were losing and our bench was playing major minutes. Maxiel in particular deserves major burn.

We have turned into a jump shooting team, and we have several players on our team that can get the ball to the rack, BUT THEY RIDE PINE. WHY?????

The starters don't fear for their minutes. BIG PROBLEM. When a regular gives poor effort or is playing bad they should be subbed out. COACHING 101.

Flip has it arse backward, and he plays the regulars no matter what while being ultra critical of bench players. odd.

I remember Flip's pompous remarks at the All star game last year about how upon reflection after being fired from Minn he decided that "HIS WAY WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG."

something tells me Flip doesn't change his mind too often.

Hopefully Joe D leans on him hard. If not, Flip will not play the bench very much. And he certianly will not know who to play when. His rotation management is the worst I have ever seen. He simply can not make adjustments and he has no clue who to play to take advantage of other teams weaknesses.

I think Bill Laimbeer has backed out of broadcasting duties because he doesn't want to be put in the position of commenting on a coach he hopes to replace THIS YEAR.

You know he would have to comment on the Ben situation and Flips coaching, and he doesn't want to be remembered as a backstabber ala Ron Rothstein, so he is taking the year off.

He's a class act, ole Bill. He's a straight shooter and a better choice for this team than anyone else available.

I waited 10 games to post because I want to be fair to Flip. ---- BUT it's only a matter of time before Bill is our coach, fellas and ladies... WHY??

Bill is a much better fit. HE coaches defense. he coaches rebounding. he's a man who demands respect. 2 rings as NBA player. A-stand-up-shoot-it-straight -guy. He's hated by all our rivals, and LOVED BY EVERYBODY IN DETROIT.

MORE IMPORTANT HE HATES OUR RIVALS AND WILL DIE TO BEAT THEM.

Nothing can convince me that Flip is the better decision over Bill Laimbeer.

Flip getting slammed all the way from NY

Mitch Lawrence in today's NY Daily News states the obvious:

"It just wouldn't be the start of training camp without a coach or two on the hot seat.

Isn't that right, Flip Saunders?

After their conference finals flameout, the Pistons forced Saunders to fire his long-time, right-hand man, Don Zierden, and they would have made him ax Sidney Lowe, too, if Lowe hadn't seen what was happening and wisely fled for the North Carolina State head coaching job. At last check, it was Saunders who burned out his starters in the regular season, contributing to their dead legs against the Heat, but Zierden unjustly ended up as the fall guy.

Saunders enters his second season in Detroit with the organization wondering if he's tough enough to deal with his veteran players, while ex-Bucks head coach Terry Porter and Dave Cowens join the bench as assistants. If the Pistons are struggling into January, Saunders is going the way of the Edsel, with Porter considered the favorite to inherit the job, although Bill Laimbeer is also waiting in the wings.

As for Saunders, he knows where he stands. He has his eye on returning to the University of Minnesota, his alma mater, where his connections still run deep."

Flip will have nowhere to hide once the team starts practicing and he is expected to comment on their prospects for the new season. He will corner himself with promises bound to be broken come regular season.

Watch carefully, faithful fans, as Flip lies about his rotation and his plans for playing time.

Come game 1 he will revert back to his old tried and failed ways of over playing his starters no matter the circumstance. 20 point leads mean nothing to Flip. He's so scared to lose HE DOESN'T TRUST ANYONE other than his starting 5, Dice, and the Spy.

Bill Laimbeer will be watching. And so will we.

Do you think Bill would allow Sheed to gun three after three (ALL YEAR) without ever trying to establish post position?

How about making no adjustment and allow Billups to get torched on layup after layup in Miami?

Do you think Bill would allow the starters to loaf through whole quarters (ALL YEAR) with no fear of a young upstart taking their spot on the court? Do you think Bill would have created a MORE INTENSE ATMOSPHERE?

Do you think Bill would allow the players to decide who starts and who subs and when?

Does anyone really think hiring two STRONG assistant coaches will somehow compensate for having a total pussy as a head coach?

Even Dave Cowens (a noted bad ass) can not redeem Flip because Flip's whole vibe ain't working in Detroit.

His personality is TOO PLAYER FRIENDLY and he garners NO RESPECT in the locker room. FLIP IS WEAK, so the GM hired strong assistants. This tells me the GM has no respect for him either. Joe is doing his best to mitigate risk by stocking the locker room with REAL COACHES.

(although not very successful, one must admit)

Flip's strategy

Flip likes his players to launch jump shots as soon as they are open. These are "good looks" in his vernacular. Come playoff time, when teams tighten their defense, the open looks are much further away from the paint, so the shots are more difficult to make. Long rebounds lead to fast breaks that leave your shot blocking bigs back at half court and in no position to defend the basket.
This in NOT PISTON BASKETBALL.

This was the reason for Ben Wallace's frustration last year. HE WAS RENDERED INEFFECTIVE on both ends of the court by a poor coaching strategy.

Bill Laimbeer will make Flip look very bad indeed. As bad as Flip made Ben look, at least.
